Sarah McKernan
I am an Irish photographic artist based between my hometown of Monaghan, and Dublin City. While also working as a wedding photographer, my personal photographic practice features various recurring elements such as playful use of natural light and shadow, and experimentation with reflection and refraction through glass. Shooting predominantly on 35mm film, I explore textures and patterns as well as moments suspended between the past and present.

Remnants
Remnants explores floral textures and patterns in everyday life, particularly within the domestic setting of homes belonging to elderly people. This project depicts various floral forms, ranging from fresh flowers to artificial flowers to embroidery. Using selective focus and shallow depth of field. Remnants produces a quiet and introspective atmosphere to capture moments seemingly suspended between the past and the present. It hints at the notion of ageing, and ultimately a generation that is gradually slipping out of focus with the passing of time.
