I am a visual artist whose work draws on themes related to nature, environmentalism and social issues. I use both photography and video. The intention behind my work is often to gain more knowledge about the topic as a maker and to bring awareness of the issue to the audience.
In the Shadow of the Yew
This project focuses on yew trees, exploring their history and longevity, with some living up to a thousand or more years. Their presence across centuries of time and connection with human history is explored through the inclusion of hands and silhouettes. Their mystical elements, and the beliefs surrounding them, are examined through the addition of graphics and other image fragments. The prevalence of yew tress in graveyards is evoked, creating a figurative connection to the processes of death and rebirth, as well as suggesting the passing of time and the production of memory.
