Michael Croghan
I am a documentary photographer who works in a poetic and formal way to understand how images function in society. I am interested in all the multi-faceted ways of visual representation which currently exist in contemporary photography. I work intuitively to explore social situations and collaboration is a key feature of my practice. The main format for realising my projects is in self-published photobooks.

Black Notice
A Black Notice is issued by Interpol and An Garda Síochána when looking for information about unidentified, deceased persons. In many cases the person may have been using a false identity. For more than ten years the Gardai and Interpol have been trying to identify the body of Peter Bergmann.
Nobody has ever come forward to claim him and he is buried in an unmarked grave in Sligo. This unsolved mystery was the starting point to explore conceptual documentary photography at the intersection between fact and fiction, the raison d'être of photography itself.
